animation

a challenge in developing educational materials related to human anatomy is figuring out how best to visually represent organs in the body. this project explores the potential of computational models as tools for education about the human cardiovascular system. the interactive animation depicts blood flow during a complete cardiac cycle. the motion of the ventricles is based upon a finite element analysis of fully-coupled electromechanical behavior of cardiac tissue, while vector illustrations add context to show the path of a cell through the heart. by combining computational models with interactive animation, we aim show the human heart in a way that is both mechanically realistic and visually engaging.
